Hidden Nasties and the new Change4Life campaign

08/01/2013 | By Sharmila Chauhan

As the food splurge of the festive season is over, many of us are looking ahead to find ways of starting the new year afresh and making health related resolutions. Getting healthier and doing more exercise are two of the top New Years resolutions - but sadly, whilst making a resolution is relatively easy to declare, they can be notoriously difficult to maintain.

Change4life is a government campaign aimed at promoting healthy eating. This January they are upping their efforts with a combination of TV adverts and online activities. The ads – which have been created by Aardman - the makers of Wallace and Gromit hope to captivate the nations imagination and encourage healthier eating in a fun and accessible way.

One of the main ways Change4Life is hoping to help people is through the creation of Supermeals.

‘Supermeals’ are a way to encourage families to cook healthier meals in the New Year. The Change4life website includes recipes for family meals under £5. The meals have been designed to be nutritionally comprehensive and low fat. The site also include tips on how to avoid 'hidden nasties' such as sugar and high fat from our diets. The meal planner can help families to watch not just their weight but also their wallet, but reducing food wastage and improving bulk buying.

Participating supermarkets such as Asda, Aldi and The Co-operative are all running promotions on healthy foods such as fruit and veg as well as those included in the Supermeals.

So as those mince pies boxes and empty wines bottles make their way to the recycling bin, get your computer out and check out the ‘lifestyle revolution'

If you'd like to help your family get fitter, visit the Change4Life website and join up!
