What is travel insurance?

Question mark FAQTravel insurance can provide cover for medical care, personal liability, loss of possessions  together with flight and travel issues. The amount of cover you can get will depend on the type of policy you choose.

Below are some examples of types of things that can be covered by travel insurance:
  • Medical and health cover for an injury or sudden illness abroad
  • Emergency services
  • Lost and stolen possessions
  • Repatriation – in the event that you need to shorten your trip
  • Personal liability cover – for bodily injury and property damage for which you are legally responsible
  • Special cover for different types of holidays e.g. independent travelling, skiing, diving, water sports etc.

Always check what is not covered by your travel insurance policy. This may include things like:
  • Drink related incidents
  • Drug related incidents
  • Terrorist activity
  • Some pre-existing conditions
