To mark Movember, a small team from Freedom Health Insurance, the Freedom Movers, took on the Move for Movember challenge. Each person walked or ran 60km in support of men's physical and mental health.
Together, the team got active, started conversations and raised money for the work of Movember in areas such as men's mental health, suicide prevention and cancer awareness.
Taking on the 60km Movember challenge
The Freedom Movers came together at the start of November to take on the challenge. But why 60km?
The distance reflects the reality behind the mission of Movember. According to Movember, 60 men are lost to suicide every hour around the world.
By each committing to 60km during November, the team turned that statistic into action. They covered the distance by walking, running or a mix of both.
Why we moved for Movember
Movember raises awareness of the issues that affect men's health around the world. These range from mental health to prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
By taking part, the Freedom Movers aimed to support these causes, start conversations and help men live healthier, longer lives.
One colleague shared why the challenge meant so much to him:
"I always support anything to do with men's mental health. It's a cause close to my heart, having lost a very good mate to suicide some years ago."
Steve Hudson, Broker Sales at Freedom Health Insurance
What the challenge was really like
Busy schedules, darker evenings and unpredictable weather all made the challenge harder. Some colleagues fitted in lunchtime walks, others ran before or after work, and motivation dipped at times.
Even so, the group kept each other going. It showed that steady, everyday effort can make a real difference when people feel supported and accountable to one another.
"With the colder, darker mornings and evenings, finding the motivation to build up the kilometres felt tough."
Ellie Law, Marketing Assistant at Freedom Health Insurance
Celebrating our Movember success
In total, the team completed 308 kilometres and raised £120 for Movember, thanks to the generosity of colleagues and supporters. Every donation, whatever the size, helps fund programmes that support men's mental and physical wellbeing.
The team also held a bake sale during the month. It brought everyone together for a feel-good fundraising day and added an extra boost to the total.
Beyond the 60km
The challenge was about more than reaching a distance. For the Freedom Movers, it was a reminder of why wellbeing, movement and open conversations matter, at work and outside it.
Movember has come to an end, but the awareness it raised continues to shape how we look after ourselves and each other at Freedom Health Insurance. The team finished the month proud of what they achieved together, and motivated to keep supporting causes that make a positive difference.
Thank you to everyone who supported the Freedom Movers and donated. Your generosity made this achievement possible and contributed to a truly important cause.
