What is Freedom Physiotherapy?

Freedom Physiotherapy gives eligible members a quick route into physiotherapy, without needing a GP referral. It is part of Freedom 360, our health and wellbeing toolkit, and is provided by Ascenti, a national physiotherapy provider.

What can physiotherapy help with?

Physiotherapy helps with problems affecting your muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons. Common examples include:

  • back pain
  • neck and shoulder pain
  • knee injuries
  • muscle strains
  • recovery after surgery

Who can use it?

Your policy must include outpatient cover with physiotherapy benefits. Freedom Physiotherapy is available with Freedom Elite, Freedom Essentials and Freedom Worldwide UK.

How does it work?

  1. Call the Freedom Physiotherapy line on 01202 756 357. You do not need a GP referral.
  2. We check your cover and eligibility.
  3. You have a virtual initial assessment of about 30 minutes with a physiotherapist.
  4. The physiotherapist recommends the treatment that suits you.

Depending on your assessment, your physiotherapist may recommend:

  • Self-management: guided exercises and advice you follow at home.
  • Virtual physiotherapy: a guided programme you complete from home.
  • Face-to-face physiotherapy: hands-on treatment at a clinic.

What does it cost?

We pay for the initial assessment in full, without applying your excess. Follow-up treatment is subject to your excess and outpatient limit.

How do you change or cancel an appointment?

Contact Ascenti by email at contact@ascenti.co.uk, by live chat or through its online contact form. Appointments cannot be cancelled by text message. Please give at least 24 hours' notice, as late cancellations may be charged.

How can you look after your back day to day?

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people need physiotherapy. Simple habits can help:

  • Keep moving. Gentle activity usually helps back pain more than resting.
  • Take regular breaks from sitting, and set up your desk so your screen is at eye level.
  • Bend your knees, not your back, when you lift something.
  • Build strength with regular exercise, such as walking, swimming or yoga.

Seek urgent medical help if back pain comes with numbness around your bottom or genitals, problems controlling your bladder or bowels, or weakness in both legs.
