Questions and answers
Which hospitals can I use with Freedom Elite?
You can use any hospital on the Freedom Elite hospital list within your level of hospital cover. The list includes NHS hospitals with private patient facilities. If you use a hospital outside your level of cover, we pay 50% of the eligible hospital charges, up to any stated maximum benefit limit.
Can I use Freedom Elite abroad?
No. Freedom Elite covers treatment in the United Kingdom only. Freedom Worldwide is our international private medical insurance. An intermediary can talk you through the options.
What is the private GP benefit?
If your policy includes the dental, optical and private GP optional benefit, we pay up to £300 towards a private GP's fees. This covers consultations, diagnostic tests and minor surgery carried out at the GP's own surgery. A £50 excess applies to this section, once per person each policy year.
Does Freedom Elite cover cancer?
Yes. Cancer cover is part of the core cover on every Freedom Elite policy, subject to the policy terms and conditions, including active treatment for advanced cancer. Investigating and diagnosing new symptoms is covered if your policy includes outpatient cover. Read our cancer promise.
Are there limits on Freedom Elite cancer cover?
Yes, some. Specialist fees are paid up to the limits in our schedule of procedures, and you pay any amount above that. Some treatments also have lifetime limits, such as one stem cell transplant. The full details are in Cancer Cover Explained, on our documents page.
What happens if my cancer can no longer be treated?
We pay in full for palliative care given solely to relieve pain and other symptoms of end-stage or terminal cancer. Palliative care eases symptoms rather than treating the cancer itself. Hospice admissions are not covered.
Does Freedom Elite cover pre-existing conditions?
Pre-existing conditions are not covered as standard. A pre-existing condition is one you had symptoms of, or treatment or advice for, in the five years before your cover started. All policies are subject to underwriting acceptance, and in certain circumstances we may agree to provide cover for a pre-existing condition. With moratorium underwriting, a condition may become eligible after a continuous two-year period without symptoms, treatment or advice. Contact us to talk through your situation.
