FAQs

What is dental, optical, and private GP health insurance cover?

The dental, optical and private GP cover is an optional package that can be added to Freedom Elite health insurance core benefits. Can you mix NHS and private services?

Health insurance members still have the right to use NHS services such as NHS GPs and dentists. This means that even if you have dental, optical, and private GP cover included in your health insurance policy, you can still see your NHS GP or get dental treatment as an NHS patient.

Does the dental, optical, and private GP benefit cover pre-existing conditions?

The cover provided under these benefits is primarily designed to assist with your day-to-day health needs, helping you maintain good oral hygiene and eye health, and enabling you to visit a GP to discuss minor medical concerns. Therefore, we do not apply the ‘pre-existing conditions’ exclusion to claims which are submitted, and reimbursed, under this optional cover.

However, if a dentist, optician, or private GP decides to refer you to a specialist or for further diagnostic tests because you may be suffering from an acute medical condition, the claim will be considered within the cover provided for outpatient treatment given by a specialist. This will include an assessment of whether your condition was present before the start date of your cover with us, and whether the exclusion for pre-existing conditions should apply.

This may mean that, on occasions, we can accept a claim for routine dental or optical expenses but are unable to accept a claim for specialist treatment for the same condition.

Why add the dental, optical, and private GP benefit on top of your core cover?

The dental, optical and private GP cover provides extra peace of mind and a way to look after your everyday health with cover for routine dental and optical costs, accidental dental injury, and private GP fees. Get a no-obligation quote now and purchase online or save your quote for later.

If you are already a Freedom Elite customer, you may be able to add the dental, optical, and private GP cover to your policy at renewal. Please contact us if you wish to talk with one of our friendly members of staff.
