To celebrate Movember, a small team from Freedom Health Insurance (Freedom Movers) took on the Move for Movember challenge, walking and running a distance of 60km in support of men’s physical and mental health. Together, the team committed to getting active, starting conversations, and raising funds to support Movember’s vital work in areas such as men’s mental health, suicide prevention, and cancer awareness.
Taking on the 60km Movember Challenge
The Freedom Movers came together at the start of November to take on the challenge. But why 60km?
The distance was chosen to reflect the reality behind Movember’s mission. Every hour, 60 men are lost to suicide around the world. By committing to complete 60km each throughout November, the team turned that statistic into action, covering their kilometres through walking, running, or a mix of both as part of Movember’s annual focus on men’s health.
Why We Moved for Movember
Movember shines a light on the issues that affect men’s health globally, from mental health struggles to prostate and testicular cancer. By taking part in the Move for Movember challenge, the Freedom Movers aimed to support these causes, spark conversations, and play a meaningful role in helping men live healthier, longer lives.
One colleague also shared why the challenge meant so much to him:
“I always support anything to do with men’s mental health. It’s a cause close to my heart, having lost a very good mate to suicide some years ago. The stigma needs breaking, and the more we do things like this, the louder the voice championing that message becomes.”
Steve Hudson, Broker Sales at Freedom Health Insurance
What the Challenge Was Really Like
Balancing busy schedules, darker evenings, and unpredictable weather meant the challenge came with its own hurdles. Some colleagues squeezed in lunchtime walks, others ran before or after work, and motivation naturally dipped at times. Even so, the group kept each other going, proving that steady, everyday effort can make a real difference when people feel supported and accountable to one another.
“With the colder, darker mornings and evenings, finding the motivation to build up the kilometres felt tough. Breaking the 60km goal down into small daily walks or runs made it feel far more achievable, and I felt motivated knowing that the challenge is helping me get fitter while building more of a routine into my day-to-day.”

Celebrating Our Movember Success
In total, the team completed 308 kilometres! Thanks to the generosity of colleagues and supporters, the Freedom Movers raised £120 for Movember. Every donation, no matter the size, helps fund life-changing programmes that support men’s mental and physical wellbeing.
The team also hosted a bake sale during the month, bringing everyone together for a feel-good fundraising day that added an extra boost to the total and helped keep the momentum going.
Beyond the 60km
The challenge represented more than simply reaching a distance. For the Freedom Movers, it became a reminder of why supporting wellbeing, movement, and meaningful conversations matters both inside and outside the workplace.
Although Movember has come to an end, the awareness it raised around men’s mental and physical health continues to influence how we look after ourselves and each other at Freedom Health Insurance. The team finished the month feeling proud of what they achieved together and motivated to keep championing causes that inspire positive change.
Thank you to everyone who supported the Freedom Movers and donated. Your generosity helped make this achievement possible and contributed to a truly important cause.
