Who Are Skin Analytics?

Skin Analytics, founded in 2012, is a trusted, clinically validated service that allows members to assess moles, lesions, and other skin concerns. They have been working alongside the NHS for almost a decade and, since 2020, have seen over  With pressures on dermatology departments seeing an 11% increase on referral rates year on year, NHS departments are now using the digital service, DERM, to increase the amount of pateints they are able to see.

Founded in 2012, Skin Analytics is a clinically validated service that helps people assess moles, lesions, and other skin concerns. They have worked alongside the NHS for nearly a decade and, since 2020, have supported more than 170,000 patients.

With demand for dermatology referral rates growing by around 11% each year, NHS departments are under pressure to see more patients, more quickly. Skin Analytics provides the digital dermatology technology known as DERM, which allows clinicians to increase capacity while maintaining high standards of care.

How well does the service work?

All assessments are reviewed by GMC-registered consultant dermatologists, so members can be confident they are receiving safe, high-quality care. Skin Analytics focuses on the early detection of skin cancer, including melanoma, with independent research showing impressive results:

• 97% accuracy in identifying skin cancers (melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and basal cell carcinoma)

• 99.8% accuracy when ruling out melanoma, compared to 98.9% for face-to-face dermatologist assessments

• Thousands of NHS patients safely discharged since 2020 thanks to early reassurance and timely triage

Dermatology Pathways Available to Freedom Health Members

Skin Analytics offers two digital dermatology pathways for our members to ensure they are getting simple, quick and convenient dermatology advice.

Skin Lesion Pathway: Fast Mole and Lesion Checks Without a GP Referral

For members worried about a mole or lesion, this pathway offers direct access to expert reviews without the need for a GP referral:

• Members are sent specialist imaging technology in the post, allowing them to capture high-quality photos from home with ease.
• These images are reviewed directly by a consultant dermatologist, ensuring expert assessment.
• A clear outcome is usually provided within three days, whether that’s reassurance, further advice, or a referral for additional care.

Dermatology Pathway: Support for Common Skin Conditions

This pathway supports members who are experiencing more general skin conditions, such as rashes, acne, or eczema, and requires a GP referral:

• Cases can be submitted securely through an easy-to-use app, making the process straightforward.
• A consultant dermatologist carefully reviews each case and considers the most appropriate next steps.
• Members typically receive tailored advice or treatment recommendations within three days, ensuring quick and convenient support.
