From 1 October 2026, Freedom Diagnostics, arranged by Scan.com, will give eligible Freedom Health Insurance members a simple route to booking and billing for X-ray and ultrasound scans.
Included within the Freedom 360 health and wellbeing toolkit, Freedom Diagnostics provides a straightforward route to private diagnostic imaging, with expert reporting and your results explained.
Eligible members can access Scan.com’s network of scanning centres across the UK following a referral from Freedom Digital GP, Freedom Physiotherapy or their own GP.
What is Freedom Diagnostics?
Freedom Diagnostics is a diagnostic imaging service for eligible Freedom Health Insurance members, providing access to X-ray and ultrasound scans through Scan.com's network of centres across the UK.
If you are referred for a scan, you send your referral to the Freedom Health Insurance claims team. We will check whether the scan is eligible under your policy. If approved, we will pre-authorise it before registering you with Scan.com.
You will then receive a booking link from Scan.com so you can choose a centre and appointment time that suits you.
How does Freedom Diagnostics work?
There are four steps to accessing a scan through Freedom Diagnostics:

You can be referred by Freedom Digital GP, Freedom Physiotherapy or your own GP. - Contact us
Send us your referral. If approved, we will register you with Scan.com. - Book your scan
You will receive a booking link to choose your preferred centre and appointment time. - Receive your results
A radiologist or sonographer reports the scan. A Scan.com clinician explains the results and any next steps.
What happens after an X-ray or ultrasound scan?
X-rays are reported by consultant radiologists, while ultrasounds are reported by sonographers.
Once your scan has been reviewed and reported, a Scan.com clinician will call to explain the findings and next steps. You will also receive a copy of your report.
Access to diagnostic imaging across the UK
Freedom Diagnostics gives eligible members access to Scan.com's network of scanning centres across the UK.

Is Freedom Diagnostics included with my policy?
Freedom Diagnostics is part of Freedom 360, our health and wellbeing toolkit.
It is available on eligible Freedom Elite, Freedom Essentials and Freedom Worldwide UK policies that include outpatient cover.
Freedom Diagnostics is not available with Freedom Worldwide Non-EEA policies.
Availability of Freedom 360 services depends on your policy.
What does Freedom Diagnostics cover?
Freedom Diagnostics covers X-ray and ultrasound scans only and does not add to or increase your existing policy benefits.
Costs count towards the outpatient diagnostic testing limit shown in your policy documents. Scan costs are deducted from the outpatient benefit, and sufficient benefit must remain for the scan to be covered.
If a different type of scan is recommended, such as an MRI or CT scan, please contact us. Your usual policy terms, benefit limits and excesses apply.
Pre-existing conditions may not be covered, depending on your policy terms.
Freedom Diagnostics provides an additional way of accessing existing outpatient diagnostic cover. You can still use a provider of your choice.
Freedom Diagnostics as part of Freedom 360
Freedom Diagnostics sits alongside the other services available through Freedom 360, helping eligible members access health and wellbeing support alongside their private medical insurance.
Depending on your policy, Freedom 360 includes services such as Freedom Digital GP, Freedom Dermatology, Freedom Cancer Care, Freedom Physiotherapy and Freedom Diagnostics.
Freedom Wellness is available to group members only.
